PART I: Brief Project Introduction
Ever get frustrated because your students don’t complete their assigned readings and could care less about the material? Feel like you are moving too slow for some students, way too fast for others, and at a perfect pace for maybe one or two students in your classroom? How about the grade gap (not that grades matter), but does it range from somewhere between 30% to 99.99%? And no matter how much you try and work with your students they don’t do nearly as much work as you do? I’m feeling your nods that your classrooms are not much different from mine and that you might struggle with these same frustrations and feel like something has to change.
Here are some of my students sharing how most of them are not readers. You can visually see and understand the problems I have with these students in my Sophomore English class. While the problem might seem like it is solely about reading, it's actually not that simple. Research has shown that not reading is problematic in numerous areas of an individual's life. I broke down all the problems I see that I can attempt to tackle in this DreamIt Project.

Here’s the thing. It isn’t too much to ask that our students care about their education and learning opportunities more than we do. However, we cannot expect them to walk into our classrooms programmed this way. Each student is unique in what drives him or her. Students need to work towards internalizing their efforts in school and being fueled by their own genuine desires, whatever that may be. What drives one student does not drive all students.
This DreamIt Project begins with the end result in mind. The goal is for my students to be self-motivated and self-driven individuals who use technology as a means to inquire and present their understanding. Sounds like a tall order, doesn’t it? I have mapped out my plan of execution on this website and welcome you to inquire, comment, challenge, support, encourage, motivate, etc. by contacting me. Happy Dreaming!

The DreamIt Project is an assignment for Michigan State University's Master of Arts in Education Technology course CEP 800. The purpose of this assignment is to see how students will "intelligently integrate new technologies to help student understanding within [their] subject area in a transformational way." The ideas of this program and project are centered around TPACK.
