CONTEXT
I am focusing on the Sophomore Composition and Literature (SCL) curriculum because I am the only teacher who teaches the course and I have these students two of the three trimesters. I have anywhere from 30-37 students per class hour with the integration of special education students as well as exchange students. I usually have three to five repeaters per trimester. I have great support from my administration and colleagues. My students and I don’t have much support from the parents and guardians, but those who are involved are highly supportive. |
While there is a regular and an honors Freshman Composition and Literature (FCL), we only have a regular SCL course. Students who were in Honors FCL are invited to advance into American Literature; however, not all students accept or are invited who should be. This leaves an enormous range of abilities and motivation of students for SCL. |
Our classroom is a warm and inviting place. It is student centered as well as community focused. Students are not afraid of speaking their mind and voicing their opinion. It is a safe environment where students are given guided choice. I have high expectations for my students to always show up/be engaged (physically as well as mentally) and to always do their best. Technology availability is an area of concern. Our building has a number of computer labs, but the labs are not always available and they are not always dependable. Not every student has a computer or internet available to them at home. |
The DreamIt Project is an assignment for Michigan State University's Master of Arts in Education Technology course CEP 800. The purpose of this assignment is to see how students will "intelligently integrate new technologies to help student understanding within [their] subject area in a transformational way." The ideas of this program and project are centered around TPACK.
